New Blog Post

So it's been a while since my last blog post. Sorry to anyone who has been visiting this blog the last while expecting me to release something. My motivation has been somewhat revitalized though and while the next real version is still a ways off I just wanted to let everyone know it's definitely coming. I'm going to try to give more regular updates on my progress, maybe weekly or something. Expect a blog post about that soon.

For now I've uploaded a new update for 4.2 which fixes a crash in UBW as well as some other bugs I've found elsewhere.

  1. What the... you're supposed to be dead!

Oh, I get it. Someone cracked Waku Waku's account and is pulling a fast one on us. Well, nice try, but I won't be fooled!

    1. Well, if you subscribe to the "Law of attraction" (quantum theory stuff, not romance) perhaps it was due to my own separate attempt on fixing the mentioned UBW crash (I started working on it maybe a week before I posted about it, and then WakuWaku ended up making his own working fix before I ever got even half-way :P)

  4. Am I crazy or does the download link for the new update not work? I just keep getting an error in Firefox as if the server doesn't even exist.

    1. Nevermind, it works now. Seems like they were doing work on their site or something.

  5. Glad to see you active again Waku! ^^ Hyarion has posted on Beats's Lair that he has renewed interest in making a complete RN patch as well, so I think everyone interested in this should join forces.

  7. Thanks for the update, man. Any chance we'll see a patch for the new content of the Vita? Like the new music?

    1. New music? Say what. It was my impression that the Vita only has new opening videos compared to the PS2 and PC Realta Nua versions.

Link or it didn't didn't happen!

Are you serious, you didn't know that? : p There's lots of discussion about the new music in the latter pages of the "Realta Nua on PSVita" topic (including some youtube links) over on Beats's Lair, so go read there if you want. The official site for the soundtrack is this one I believe (but it's in Japanese): http://www.aniplex.co.jp/staynight/top.html I have the soundtrack, personally, and there is a lot of great stuff there. It consists of 3 CD's, with 24, 25, and 13 tracks respectively. As for the VITA version of the game itself, you can choose ingame whether you want to use the new versions of the songs, or the original PS2 Realta Nua songs.

    1. ...the crap? Why wasn't this stuff in the PC download version? Why put such exclusive content in a port for a platform that is, to put it bluntly, doing badly world-wide and even more-so in its home-country?

PS2 Realta Nua made sense at least...

    3. To increase the chances of the port selling ok even on a console doing badly like the VITA, of course. :P

    6. Because the Vita is freaking awesome (and has a lot of great games on it already). The world just hasn't realized it yet, but they're getting a head start on it.

That having been said, Vita sales have actually picked up quite a bit lately, believe it or not. They're currently sold out everywhere near me.

  9. I have the 3.2 patch can i upgrade to 4.2 and not lose any my saves and data? also what is the difference?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Refer to this post about difference between v3.2 and v4.0 (and by association v4.2):
      http://rnpatch.blogspot.com/2009/12/realta-nua-patch-version-40.html

If you're worried about your saves, then just make a backup of your "savedata" folder.

    2. Do i have to install 4.0 then 4.1 then 4.2 or just 4.2?

But seriously, glad to hear you plan to finish it off. Been looking forward to a non-ero version of F/SN for quite a few years now :)

  13. Is there any chance you could upload the translations for the alternate scenes at all?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Is it possible to install your Rualta Nua patch for the voices and images and NOT have the translation? I want to play it in Japanese.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The voices come from the Mirror Moon patch. I don't think his currently adds any text, so if you can use the translation patch to only add the voices, you should be good to go.

      Delete
    2. No, It's not possible. Everything that happens in a scene including CGs, voices, visual effects, and text are in the same script. Neither this patch nor Mirror Moon's voice patch can be applied without the affected scenes becoming English.

    3. The voice patch requires a copy of PS2 Realta Nua, so you must already have a copy of that. If you don't have a Japanese PS2 and/or a freeloader, you can use the emulator PCSX2 and run directly from the disc.

Normally PCSX2 requires quite a fast CPU (think a 3GHz Sandy Bridge or a 5GHz Piledriver). However, since it's just a 2D visual novel, the CPU requirements should be considerably lower.

    4. To confirm, I just tried my copy of PS2 Realta Nua in PCSX2 and it ran way better than I expected. I'm only using a Athlon 64 X2 4800+ @ 2.5GHz (a dieshrink of a whopping 8-year old CPU) and yet it ran at full speed most of the time. The only time it slowed down at all was on videos and during scene transitions, but videos are very rare and scene transition effects can be disabled in Realta Nua's "CONFIG" settings . Note that there were some graphical errors on the videos and minor corruption in the top-left during scene transitions.

Anyway, I did have to do two things that were not expected. One is that I had to rip my PS2 disc to an ISO; if I tried to read directly from the PS2 disc I would get a "CDVD Read Error". (I personally used "InfraRecorder Portable" to make the ISO, which matched the SHA-1 hash on redump.org).

Secondly, I had to uncheck "Enable INTC Spin Detection" in PCSX2 under speedhacks. If you leave the setting on, the prologue will freeze right after the very first "page" of text. You can find the speedhacks options in PCSX2 under "Config" -> "Video (GS)" -> "Window Settings" and then click the "Speedhacks" icon.

That's really pretty much it. Other than getting a PS2 bios file and setting up your controls in PCSX2, everything else should work fine with their default settings.

    5. If you want to play it in Japanese, the easiest solution would be to just play the PC version of RN.

      Delete
    6. Yes, but you need the PS2 version for the voice patch, and since he had the voice patch a assumed he already had the PS2 version.

      Delete
    7. Doesn't change the fact that it would probably be easier for him to just get the official download PC version of RN, and play that, since it already has voices pre-installed, and is in Japanese. I know Nyaa has it.

  19. Hi Waku Waku, hope you can help me with my install questions on your patch.

I have base install + Mirrormoon's 3.2 patch which results in patch1.xp3 to patch6.xp3. Then, I have an uncensored patch which is patch7.xp3.

Do I then name the base 4.2 patch patch8.xp3, followed by fix (01-29-10) patch9.xp3 and finally update (01-07-13) patch10.xp3? Or should I place the uncensor patch after yours? Also, it doesn't look like you posted the fix (01-29-10) so is that no longer needed with the update?

    1. The old fix isn't needed. The uncensored patch can go before or after, it shouldn't matter.

    2. roger, thanks for the quick reply. Hopefully it'll all go well.

Just got a sudden burst to read this after re-watching the Blu-ray of Fate/Zero

  20. Just started learning to play this. Got a question about the "saves" folder from the main patch 4,2. Must it pasted to the game directory?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The saves would go in the savedata folder. However, those are just shortcuts for people who just want to see the new CGs and stuff. If you're starting from the beginning then ignore them.

  21. I see. Just wanna be sure so the files I need to paste is 4_2.xp3 from "realta_nua_patch_ver4_2" + voice.xp3 from "4_2update01-07-13" and then rename them to patch7.xp3 + patch8.xp3 ?
