A New Direction

So I'm back to working on the patch, but I'm going to be going at it a little differently. I'm going to be working on inserting the existing English translation from the original PC version into the actual PC Realta Nua.

There are two types of scripts in PC RN: The "hollow mode" scripts which are the ones like Nine Bullet Revolver which have hollow ataraxia-like effects that aren't very compatible with original PC, and then the "fate mode" scripts which are the same style as original PC.

The benefit this has for the current patch is that fate mode scripts make up the vast majority and with a few easy tweaks can be inserted right into the original PC version. This way I'll be able to catch a lot more of the changes besides just BGM like new sound effects, new sprites, etc.

Note that this will not be a translation project. None of the changes in the dialogue or narration will be reflected. My hope is that if there is a translation project in the future this could give it a jump start. Though once I'm done inserting the translation I'm planning on also inserting the H-scene stuff from the original PC in to make PC RN readable in the meantime.

Also while I'm working on this I plan on uploading a patch with my current progress every week. Since this is going to be a lot of scripts I'm worried about QC, so it would be great if anyone wants to read through them and let me know about any errors.

OH also, unrelated to this I'd like to point out some patches done by other people that you guys might be interested in.

This is planned to be included in the next version of the RN conversion patch later, but MeruP would like some feedback on how it works.

Much better than the old one.

  1. I thought it worth mentioning, Improved Uncensor Patch seem to be missing 2 images: "CH04" and "CH04h300". The ones that are there should be in fact called "CH04 (2)" and "CH04h300 (2)"
The difference is a 2 variants of Shirou's left hand - normal one and covered with bondage (or whatever that is).

    1. I know why you might think these images are 'missing' (as they exist in the old uncensor patch), but those images are actually not needed and never appear in the game.

      - CH04 and CH04h300 from the original game are (censored) sex scenes, which occur only AFTER Shirou gets an orange bandage on his arm. However, in the original images, there's actually a continuity error, as these original images don't show a bandage on Shirou's arm.

      - Mirror Moon's English installer patch (by default) replaces these CH04 and CH04h300 images with edited images. They are still censored, but Shirou now has the orange bandage on his arm, like he should at this point in the game.

      - The OLD uncensor patch had an uncensored version of the ORIGINAL CH04 and CH4h300 (the one without bandages), as well as a CH04 (2) and CH4h300 (same picture, but WITH bandages). However, the game never references CH04 (2) or CH4h300 (2), which actually means that the old uncensor patch re-introduces the continuity error (as well as wastes space on two images that never get used).

      - My uncensor patch only includes CH04 and CH4h300, which is uncensored and includes the bandage so there is no continuity error.

I've verified all of the above both by extracting the images from all the XP3 files of the original game (which don't have a CH04 (2) or CH4h300 (2)), plus also testing in-game with all of Sakura's ero scenes using both the old and my new uncensor patch.

    2. I see, that's nice to know. I was reading FSN so long ago that I don't remember any bandages at all, let alone any possible "continuity errors" related to them ^__^

  3. Will this mean that the RN-exclusive H-alt scenes will no longer be translated? It would be nice to share the VN with friends and/or family without them going all "pr0n? nokthx".

    1. Not necessarily. It's being looked into I think but translations were never really my department so what I work on wouldn't affect that.

    2. I hope by "being look into" you don't mean by mirrormoon because they've pretty much said that translating and patching F/sn burned them out to the point that they really don't want to touch it...and this is in regards to how they had previously said they would make a non-H patch.

  4. For the 5th time, the Realta Nua OP patch failed to download completely. =((

    1. I ignored this comment on purpose, since there is nothing wrong with original host, and even if its not his internet is crappy and there was some disruptions the whole 5 times, no one stops him from resuming download from the point where it left off.

    2. Oh, my bad. I missed the OP part and thought he was talking about my patch.

  5. I've tested the Realta Nua OP patch, but it didn't work. No videos appear on the gallery, and when the Unlimited Blade Works movie was about to start, a pop up appeared and the script no longer continued (this pop up had no text, and was like the one that opened on the graveyard scene on the bug that was fixed on the latest patch from waku waku).

I've replaced krmovie.dll as the instructions told me, and renamed patch_voice as patch10.xp3 (maybe the engine cannot support more than 10 patches at a time?)

    1. "No videos appear on the gallery"
You need to open them again by reading through story. They only appear after you watch them.
As for popup - I'll check if I haven't re-introduced any bugs that Waku Waku previously fixed.
But why you have the whole 10 patches? I can't imagine what could it be. Try to remove some except patch by Mirror Moon and Waku Waku (uncensor patch is irrelevant it can't break anything).

    3. Okay I re-checked stuff. I have my patch as patch10.xp3 after translation+voices, rn+fix and decensor patches. Can't reproduce any issues with any route. I don't see any places for conflicts so only possible explanation is that your windows fails to play the movie. If you feel like trying to solve it, you can:
      - proceed with LAV advice. Also make sure that you made LAV filters preferred (if you're on Win7-Win8). You should know what I'm talking about as I'm not providing support for fixing your windows.
      - delete Fate.exe.console.log in Fate/stay night folder (if it's there). Try to play movie again. After you see popup - close FSN immediately. New "Fate.exe.console.log" should appear in FSN folder. Show me it's contents.

  6. Okay, reinstalling the LAV filters and making them preferred (and checking the "tray icon" option on the configuration menu) I managed the videos to work again.

One thing I've noticed, is that if I skip through the game pressing the skip button (Ctrl), the game will erroneously skip the choice on Fate's route's 7th day (the one about asking Saber for a super-move), so the script will wait forever for you to pick an option that you no longer can see. This glitch with the skip button (Ctrl) also happens on the 8th day (the choice about Fuji-nee and the oranges); you skip the text and end staring at a blank dialog box without being able to pick any option.

As far as I know, these are the only instances on the Fate path in which keeping Ctrl pressed glitchs the game in a way that prevents you from advancing further.

    1. I wonder what was used before you managed to solve problem by installing LAV? I knew that this is most reliable option, but I did tested default windows filters and movies worked with them. Means probably something other than LAV or default filters was interfering.
BTW it's probably obvious but tray icon was only needed to easily see that LAV works. You don't really need it otherwise.

    2. I had to install some codecs and make some changes to the video configuration to fix an issue that VLC/Media Player Classic have with h264 high-definition (720p and above) MKV movies that also include subtitles, that causes movies to stutter unless you disable the subtitles. Sorry if I can't be more specific about the previous configuration.

  7. so,the Vita OP patch isn't working for me.No movies show up on the extras menu to watch even if I watch the Prologue again(which only plays the Realta Nua PC version, anyway),does that mean the movies only show up on the menu after I finish the Fate route,or is there something else I should do?

  8. WOW! I finally get it working. I installed the LAV Filter and play using the savefile contents and BOOM! It works, it now shows the 5 vids. Thanks a lot, MeruP.

  9. So I just compared the 2nd H scene in the Fate route, and on the new uncensored patch the gap between Shiro's right hand and saber is non existent. His hand looks freakishly big because there isn't a gap between the two. I'm not sure if this is because the artist was lazy or if he just didn't notice or who knows what happened. But I thought I'd let you guys know.
